Logo Turtle


Seymour Papert invented the Logo Turtle in 1967. It is an effective programing language invented for the purpose of learning.

The Turtle is a device which is placed on the floor and moves around from the commands given to it from a computer offering a never before available experience to the generation of children, allowing an easier learning format for them. Papert stated that "the essential point about the turtle is it's role as a transitional object, there is a transition between the body, self and the abstract mathematical ideas" meaning you are able to connect with the turtle in order to complete a task. The Logo Turtle helps children with maths and allows them to engage more with it creating an environment for them where it is fun and easier to understand. 

The Logo Turtle is still used today in the 21st century, although not as much due to the fact that technology has expanded and transformed dramatically since 1967 but the Logo Turtle has moved with the times and has undertaken many changes and developments.
